ANSWER

Don Featherstone is the creator of the Plastic Pink Flamingo (PPF).

The PPF was one of the first products Don Featherstone created after joining the Union Products company of Leominster, Massachusetts in 1957. It was Featherstone's first job after graduating from art school. He worked for Union Products his entire career, and in 1996 purchased the company from its former owners. Featherstone is retired today, but the Union Products company continues to sell hundreds of thousands of PPF's every year.

A few interesting facts about Don Featherstone and his Plastic Pink Flamingo...

The PPF was not his first design for Union Products, his first was actually a duck. According to Featherstone, the duck is anatomically correct.

In the summer, Featherstone keeps a flock of 57 PPF's in his yard. In the winter, he has a pair of white "Snomingos".

Don Featherstone and his wife Nancy always wear matching outfits, all of which are sewn by Nancy.

A GM auto dealership in Oklahoma once won a marketing award for a publicity stunt where a flock of PPF's would mysteriously appear in a different location around town every day. Local traffic reporters began to include the latest location of the flock in their traffic reports. No one knew where the flock came from, or why, until the last day when the flock appeared at the dealership.

So many PPF's were kidnapped from the flock that the dealership had to place an emergency order for an additional 700 PPF's.

The scientific name of the PPF is "phoenicopteris ruber plasticus".
