ANSWER

Iowa.

In 1991 Maharishi Mahesh Yogi invited the US government to move from Washington, DC to Fairfield, Iowa, a state which he described as the most coherent, peaceful area in the US.

The history of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Iowa goes back to 1973, when Parson's College in Fairfield, Iowa closed its doors. In its day, Parson's College was affectionately known as "Flunk-Out U", for it's policy of accepting students who failed out of classes at other schools, thus providing an attractive alternative to military service in Vietnam. With the end of the Vietnam era, and with the emergence of local community colleges, admissions at Parson's College dropped off sharply, and ultimately the school went bankrupt.

Shortly after, the campus was acquired by Maharishi and it became Maharishi International University. Today, the school is known as the Maharishi University of Management. (That's right, University of Management - like many others in the 90's, Maharishi went corporate.)

Despite his affection for Iowa, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi currently lives in the Netherlands, a place we assume he finds more coherent than Iowa, and visits the Fairfield campus only occasionally - the last occasion being in 1984.
