ANSWER
Joseph Pujol was better known by his stage name "Le Petomane", which very roughly translates as "The Fartiste". Le Petomane had the unusual ability to draw in rectally, and subsequently expel, huge volumes of air (or water, though that was never a part of his performance). Onstage he performed a variety of impressions, musical numbers, and sound effects, taking the art of the "arse trumpet" to an entirely new level. With the addition of a rubber hose, he was able to smoke a cigarette, blow out stage lights, and play a flute. His abilities are probably best summed up by Dr. Marcel Baudouin in the title of his article published in the 1892 edition of La Semaine Medicale - "An Extraordinary Case of Rectal Breathing and of Musical Anus".
