Freedom Fries, Danish Pizza, and Irony

I was just reading an article about the recent anti-French sentiment that is springing up in response to the French opposition to the American policy towards Iraq.  It covered the usual "freedom fries" replace "french fries" type thing, but apparently the anti-French backlash is not restricted to just America.

I think we forget that there are other countries besides the US and Britain who support the US/British position, and are just as ticked off at the French right now.  Countries like Spain, Italy, Portugal, Denmark... well, pretty much every country in Europe except France, Germany, Belgium, and Russia.

As an example, the article cites a pizzeria owner in Denmark who is refusing to serve French and German customers in his restaurant.  Aage Jensen, who could lose up to one third of his revenue from the move, explained it this way, "I'm following my conscience and conviction. If it had not been for the US, the world would look different today."  (For example, residents of Paris would likely speak German today.)

The funny thing is, if Mr. Jensen's pizzeria were in America, he would not be allowed to refuse service to anyone based on their nationality.  Personally, I think that's a good thing, but still, I'd like to shake Mr. Jensen's hand.

I see another imbecile with a weblog...

No, not another weblog - there's way too many already - just an occasional stab at creative writing.  And I do mean occasional, I don't have time or the inspiration to do this kind of crap every day.

Besides for every imbecile with a weblog there are at least 50 other no-talent embeciles out there full of criticism, but with nothing positive to offer.  So I think we'll just stick to the news for a while.

Geez - I spelled "imbecile" two different ways.  At least one of them was right  :)
