What NOT to do if you run over an alligator

Leslie Strickland, of Port Charlotte, Florida, hit an alligator with her car late Friday night.  According to the AP, she put the gator in her back seat and drove it home, where she attempted, unsuccessfully, to contact the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission.  That's when here neighbors reminded her that it was illegal to possess an alligator.  So she put it back in her car and set off looking for a pond where she could release the animal.

At some point on the way, the alligator came to its senses and began thrashing around in her back seat.  Understandibly distracted, she lost control of the car, hit a mailbox, and slid into a ditch.  With her car now firmly stuck in the ditch, she got out and walked back home.  She was arrested there a short time later, and charged with possession of an alligator (a felony), driving with a suspended license, and leaving the scene of an accident.
