Look for this guy in the next set of Darwin Award's nominees...
Edward McBride was being pursued by Tulsa, Oklahoma police who suspected him of robbing a house. He was carrying a large duffelbag full of stolen goods, plus additional loot stuffed in his pockets, so naturally he was anxious not to get caught. That's when he had the idea. He would elude police by jumping into the muddy Arkansas river and swimming away. What he didn't count on was the difficulty he would have swimming while carrying over 50 pounds of stolen goods. He only made it about 40 yards before he drowned.
