A recent CNN article on the ongoing debate about the US penny (should we keep it, should we get rid of it) points out the basic weirdness of the situation.
Apparently supporters of the movement to get rid of the penny are backed by the copper industry. Why? because with no pennies, we will need more nickels. Which still doesn't make any sense, until they explain that nickels aren't really made of nickel. At least not anymore. Nowadays they are made of mostly copper.
But what about pennies, aren't they made of copper too? No. That would make too much sense. Pennies are made of mostly zinc. Consequently, the zinc industry is backing the movement to keep the penny.
So, for those of you scoring at home...
Copper Industry - get rid of pennies, make more nickels!
Zinc Industry - keep the pennies, we like pennies!
Nickel Industry - doesn't care one way or the other

I think we should keep pennies i mean if you need some extra change you can find pennies everywhere. That's where alot of poorer people get there money they get them anywhere. You don't find nickels as much. Plus if we get rid of pennies, prices go up! Plus, the zinc corporation is loosing money.
