Personal Business

I think we've all done something like this - leave work in the middle of the day to take care of some personal business, say depositing a paycheck at the bank. You are only away from work for half an hour or so, and you can't take care of it after work because the banks are closed. And you really need to go because you have some bills to pay that are already late. Sound familiar?
Well, in David Arndt's case, it is just a little different. According to Reuters, David was suspended from his job for doing just that sort of thing. The difference is - David is a surgeon. David was in the middle of surgery when he popped out. (He says he had to go to the bank to deposit a paycheck because he had bills that were late.) There was no one present who was qualified to finish the surgery in David's absence. The patient had to wait, on the table, open incision in his back, for over half an hour, before David returned to finish the surgery.
The good news is, the patient so far has not suffered any ill effects from the delay. The other good news is, David Arndt will not be practicing medicine in the state of Massachusetts for a while. (No word on how he intends to pay his bills now.)
