Subject: save turtles (anyway you can)
PORTLAND, Ore. (Wireless Flash) -- Now you can do your part for the environment by sucking down a few cold ones. A new beer that’s just hitting the bars in Hawaii is aiming to help endangered sea turtles around the world. How? By donating 20 percent of all proceeds to World Turtle Trust, a Honolulu-based non-profit which funds sea turtle conservation efforts.
Portland Brewing Company head brewer Brett Porter came up with the idea for the so-called “Honu Beer” after a Hawaiian vacation where he came face to face with the gentle honus, or sea turtles.
He says he knew he had to do something for the creatures after his trip and figured beer would be the best route to pursue since that’s his expertise. A six-pack of the pale ale will sell for around $7.99 at retail, and shipments are expected to hit stores later this month.
