"Based on the cultural diversity and sensitivity of Los Angeles County, this is not an acceptable identification label."
-- Joe Sandoval, purchasing manager with Los Angeles County, in a memo requesting computer hardware and electronics manufacturers refrain from using the terms "master" and "slave" in labeling their equipment.
The memo was sent to over 1,000 vendors, and further went on to ask them to "review, identify and remove/change any identification or labeling ... that could be interpreted as discriminatory or offensive in nature"

Will someone please tell me what these terms have to do with cultural diversity and sensitivity?
Every single culture in the history of the known world has either been both "masters" and "slaves" or has had "masters" and "slaves" within their own societies.
