couldn't the german live in either the green or white house??? couldn't the swede live in teither the green or white house also?

Guest Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 8:33 PM

No. He must be in the Green House. The White House must contain a smoker of Blue Mast and drink Beer, but the German must smoke Prince. Figure from there.

Guest Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at 8:34 PM

Oh and the White house must smoke BlueMast/drink beer, because all the other houses have their drink/smoke already determined

ur all rtemtards the answer is F_CKING GERMAN u teets

Guest Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 3:34 PM

you are assuming that the fifth pet is a fish.  there is no way to know without assuming.

Curtis Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 4:32 PM

You don't have to assume the fifth pet is a fish.  You infer it directly from the question "Who owns the fish?"

(Think people, use ALL of the information available to you.)

Guest Saturday, January 24, 2009 at 8:20 AM

To those posting "I did this in 10 mins and I'm 13" or similar, I cant see how to be honest. You must be genius level or know exactly how to solve it before you start. Or cheat.

To solve this I basically lay down a grid, set things that I get told are certain, and then those that I can determine easily. Once those are exhausted I have to start playing with the jigsaw pieces to see what can fit where, considering certain things are linked in clues, like the German smokes Prince etc(use a diff color/pencil to the 'set' clues). Theres only a few possible first moves, and only one combo fits properly.

For reference I am 25 yo male, IQ between 140 and 150. Took me about 30 mins, but I was a little distracted watching Rafa thimp Haas in the tennis.

Guest Monday, March 2, 2009 at 6:44 PM

exucse me for being an idiot but explain y the german keeps the fish

Guest Monday, March 16, 2009 at 2:26 AM

The German does not live in the blue house...

This took me roughly an hour to an hour and a half, with TV and computer distractions...

You just have to lay out a chart. I went through two before I found one that I found suitable. Even though they've already revealed the answer it is still a fun exercise.

And, like someone said earlier, the German can only be in one house. Try to make a chart with what something CANNOT be. It helps.

There's actually a bit of trial and error and a bit of logical thinking involved in solving Einstein's Riddle.
I reckon the trick to it is drawing squares with all four of the possessions around each of the four sides of the square, and having the nationality of the person inside the box. I wrote down all the possible information, then I pretty much used trial and error in this next bit.
So back to the guys with the 20 minute times and 10 minutes, its possible, but they pretty much had it planned out before they started and didn't sit and ponder on it like I and a few others did on this forum.
By the way, a friend of mine did this is less time than that shown here. I think what he did was crazy as he went through and saw that only one (or two...not sure on this) nationality had its name mentioned once; where the others had theirs mentioned twice. And therefore he came to the conclusion and answer to Einstein's Riddle.
But anyways this was an awesome thing to do, to kill some time in a study period.

I'm still in the whom, and I firstly invented a computed using spare organs... appendix, extra lung, kidneys etc... Then i went on to solve this riddle in under a second.

I'm due in 3 months, the world has never seen the likes of my genius.

Guest Friday, May 1, 2009 at 10:06 AM

I did this in less then 1 minuet its the German

Guest Monday, May 4, 2009 at 11:32 AM

Its spelt 'womb', you're going to be a majorly dumb genius.

Guest Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 5:38 AM

i m 5 and i did this in 30 seconds lol

Guest Friday, June 5, 2009 at 7:42 PM

We did this at school and my friend and I could not find it and it was driving us mad!!!! By lunch we had gone insane and started guessing who would have what pet logicaly (you know British people would probably have cat/dog) and came to the conclusion that the germans would want an easy to take care of pet... WE WERE RIGHT!!!! We are smarter than Einstein ( well, we probably just got lucky, but still cool story)! We though that was the way you were supposed to do it, apparently their is another way...

Guest Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 7:55 AM

In 2001 I was the only one who solved it in my school, it took me more than 2hrs and I was 17. My maths teacher, the smartest man in school, couldn't. My IQ is avg. 137, an African male Economist from SA.

There is no trial and error, no guessing neccessary. Mat is right, after filling in the neccessary and obvious info, the rest becomes logically fitting- one piece at a time. The fact that it clears one piece at a time is what makes it time consuming.

Guest Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 10:32 PM

Huh. I'm only 12 and I solved it right away. It's very simple. Green houses contain plants and living organisms, right? So the fish must be in the green house.

Guest Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 6:01 AM

Guest Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:49 PM

green house, german man, he drinks coffee, he smokes prince and he has the FISH :D

Guest Friday, December 11, 2009 at 2:49 PM

plus im 12 too

Guest Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 5:59 PM

'Green houses contain plants and living organisms'
But they all own a pet and I'm assuming most pets are living organisms? You can't just guess, you have to use logic to work it out definitively.

Guest Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 9:59 PM

hey yall this riddle mad hard i swear i pulled half of my hair out -.-

Guest Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 7:06 AM

g

Guest Friday, March 12, 2010 at 5:41 AM

A.R im 19, aus barely completed high school

took me around 3 hours (was also semi watching TV)

I tried for the first 20mins to just do it without writing anything down but you defiantly need columns.

i took the following steps to figure it out: 9, 14, 8, 4, 5, 1, 11 ( was stuck here for most of the riddle)

Then continued to finally go 7, 12, 3, 13, 2, 15, 10, 3 Again, 6 ,10

Fun riddle all in all

Guest Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 2:24 PM
