A bitter guest once said to me,
'Why are you liein?' to which I replied
Do you mean 'lying?', then happily

I don't think his answer is right. There is no evidence stating that any of the people owned fish. I mean the German could have owned Monkeys and then no one would have owned fish. We are assuming that someone owned fish. I do not think that that is a valid assumption.
Answer: "If any one of the 5 people in the five houses owned fish, it would have to be the German. But he could also have any animal as a pet except for cats, birds, dogs, and horses."

i solved it from the street perspective, and so the left reference reversed, comes out as the dane has the fish!

no... really it is a very logical riddle i answered just in an hour ... you just have to find opposing statements and statements which agree to other statements without opposing another.. just like that.. i did not assume anything..

u cant have the dane owning the fish, and similarly, theres no way to infer that the german had fish either, he could have had anything

Read the question. It clearly implies that *somebody* owns a fish.
If you choose to ignore that important bit of information only because it isn't explicitly stated, you will not be able to solve the problem. But if your prone to that sort of tunnel-vision, I suspect you will have much greater difficulties in life than not being able to solve this riddle.
